Zardozi is not glue

9 January 2026 — A short visit to the frame: coiled gilt, a still back, and why heavy bridal cloth cannot be rushed for a catalogue date.

The word gets used for anything gold. Real zardozi is metal thread laid on a stretched fabric, coil by coil, often by a karigar who has been at the same frame since before lunch. It has weight. It has a wrong side. It cannot be steamed like a printed foil.

When a listing on our site says zardozi, that is what we mean. Gotta is a different craft — ribbon arches, lighter, more festive than ceremonial. Mukesh is hammered metal that reads as dew. We name them separately so you are not sold sequins as heritage.

If you need a piece before a date, write to us with the date. Some frames cannot be hurried. We would rather miss a sale than ship a glued imitation with our label in the neck.
